OFFICIAL LAUNCH

OF THE COMPUTER NETWORK OF SM J/K KEAT HWA

The new computer network of the school was officially launched by YB Dato' Fong Chok Gin, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the School, on Saturday, 13th February 1999 at 9:00 am.

Dato' Fong clicked a mouse at the graphic display of a red ribbon which activated an animated display coupled with digitised applause and music to launch the computer network.

The Computer Network, consisting of a main server with a back-up server and nine networked stations, was set up under the personal supervision and untiring efforts of Mr Tang Siew Liang, Head of the Vocational & Technical Department of the School.

The Network includes the following:

1. The main server which is located in the Principal's office with a back-up server in a special computer room located next to the new Staff Room.

2. Four other computers, including a flatbed colour scanner, which are placed in the special computer room for use by staff members.

3. Three computers which are located in the School Main Office for administrative use by the School Clerical Staff.

4. Another two computers which are found in the Senior Assistants' Office for Staff Check-in & Check-out as well as for official use.

5. A number of printers are also available for use as networked printers or standalones.

6. Multimedia capabilities are also available within the network including access to the Internet.

The computerised display used for the launch was created by the School Computer Club team of Tang Aik Meng of U6Sc3, Ivan Lim Siu Kee of 4A1 and Yeoh Zhi Xiang of 4A3.
