MR. TEOH SOON HOCK PJK

RETIREMENT FROM THE EDUCATION SERVICE

23RD MAY 1999

Mr Teoh Soon Hock came to SM J/K Keat Hwa on 1st January 1984. He was posted to what is known as the Branch School of SM J/K Keat Hwa, situated at Kampung Baru, opposite the Federal Building. By the 23rd of May 1999, Mr Teoh would have provided more than 15 years of dedicated service to the students of the school in the field of what was formerly called Industrial Arts...now known as the subject of Living Skills.

Mr Teoh was very active in the field of Badminton and served as the Hon. Secretary of the Kedah Badminton Association for many years. Until lately, he was the teacher-in-charge cum coach of the school badminton team and many of the team's successes and achievements were due to his untiring efforts and patience in nurturing the members of the team. He was awarded the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK) by the Sultan of Kedah on HRH's birthday in the year 1984.

Mr Teoh is a simple and humble man who believes in doing what is right and good for his students. He has conducted extra classes for his students when the situation demanded it and even goes out of his way to help his students in their daily work, be it in cash or kind, without any thought of rewards for himself. As a teacher, Mr Teoh has always been very approachable to his students, be it in school or out of it.

To his colleagues, Mr Teoh is always jovial and can be found to be in the midst of any laughter emanating from the staffroom or the branch school canteen. He is one who makes a lot of effort to bring together his friends in Branch School, using the simplest of reasons....even for a simple supper at a local coffee shop! Even now, he is the motivating factor in getting a group of his colleagues involved in uplifting their physical health at a local gym/club. All the teachers in Branch School will miss him.....the one and only "Lawrence of Arabia" Teoh!

Mr Teoh will most likely turn out to be the last teacher who will enjoy the privilege of retiring at Branch School which, sad to say, will most probably move to be one with the Main School at Jalan Kuala Kedah in the year 2000.

On behalf of all the teachers and staff of the school, we wish Mr Teoh all the very best upon his retirement and that he will continue to be in good health, be still as merry as ever and will not hesitate to drop in anytime to visit all his "former" colleagues after his retirement.

A Very Happy Birthday To You, Mr Teoh,
on the 23rd of May, 1999!!
