The Arva Institute is a unique one-year environmental studies program which was established in 1996. The Institute is situated on Kibbutz Ketura, an oasis in the Arava Valley, near the Jordanian and Egyptian borders. AIES serves as a regional center for conservation and environmental protection activities, developing ties between Middle Eastern, Israeli, European, and North American university students.

The George Washington University Green University Initiative began as a grassroots movement to implement sustainable practices into all aspects of life at GW.
