Summary: What if the Dominion War had been World War 1 instead of 
World War 2?  What if the war had started early and stalled along 
a line of death, leaving many Federation citizens on the wrong 
side of the boarder and their war was the struggle to live under 
Dominion occupation and rule.  What if the Dominion had little 
colonies with too many refugees and not enough food that didn't 
even need the Jem'Hadar to threaten?  And what if you, Benjamin 
Sisko, had to dance the fine line between the contempt of your 
own people and the demands of the enemy because if you didn't do 
what they told you the Jem'Hadar enforce the rules for you?

I confess . . . I didn't really try to get a good beta read on 
this one.  It's been sitting on the drive for years, and while I 
nearly rewrote whole passages while updating it, some parts were 
untouched.  But in earlier drafts it has had some ruthless 
betaing, and chose to go with that.
