Have a look at today's Star-Ledger editorial pushing for a Nets arena in Newark. The Ledger dismisses McMullen's dream of a Hoboken arena, in part by saying the following:

"The Devils' plan calls the street network leading into Hoboken 'relatively direct and convenient.' Except for the traffic jams, double parking and potholes.

"The plan hinges on construction of a new road on an abandoned rail line called the Bergen Arches. It claims that federal funding of $27 million for an engineering study of the project 'secures the future development of the roadway.'

"That's a great leap of faith. Some planners are pressing for a new rail line instead. Road construction would take five years or so, at a cost of $300 million, assuming competing projects are put on hold."
