Nationwide League Div. 3
DateVersusH/AScore ScorersPositionComments
7/8/99MansfieldHW 6-0Freeman 3, Thomas, Newhouse 2 1st!Well.... what can you say? First game back home after two years in exile and we hit six!! Unbelievable. If that isn't a statement of intent to the rest of this league what is? Long may it continue!!
14/8/99Leyton OrientA W 2-1Crosby, Rogers1stFinally, after years of sour defeats we beat the Orient at their place. And didn't it upset them. What a start to the season.
21/8/99Torquay UtdH L 0-16thHuh! You get all excited then an inspired display from a 41-year old goalie (Neville Southall) spoils it.
28/8/99DarlingtonAD 1-1 Hart9thA game I attended. Darlington's first dropped points and goal against of the season. It should have been more, we were the better team until having a player sent off after 30 minutes. We hung out well for the draw, with 11 men we'd have won I think.
31/8/99Hull CHW 3-0Watson, Freeman (pen), Crosby 6th
5/9/99Plymouth AAD 3-3 Freeman, Oatway 27thA couple of high-scoring games, at least we're putting the ball in the net, though the defending at the Plymouth game was apparently abysmal.
11/9/99Halifax TAL 1-2Freeman (pen)10thThe words 'false dawn' are coming to mind... this was a sickening result, losing to a last minute goal, a frailty all too obvious last season and not gone this, it seems. We should have got a point, we got nothing, and that's not good enough.
18/9/99Chester CHL 2-3Hart, Cullip11th Another last-minute goal brings defeat once more in a match of woeful finishing and defending. It's now the first two weeks that look like the aberration, not recent defeats....
25/9/99Cheltenham THW 1-0 Rogers8thAlbion's first ever league match against Cheltenham and this time we get the last-minute goal, a welcome win after some mediocre displays.
2/10/99Peterborough UAD 0-010th
9/10/99Carlisle UAW 1-0Aspinall6thAlbion utterly dominated this game but have only a single goal to show for it... ah, who cares. We won!
16/10/99York CHL 0-111thAAARGHH! Another last-minute goal! Play 90 minutes, you bunch of losers..... sorry, this one was really annoying.
19/10/99Shrewsbury THW 1-0 Hart8thMore low scoring, this time in the 3rd minute instead of the 90th - but another win.
23/10/99Cheltenham TAD 0-07thWhat happened to all the goals?
2/11/99Southend UAL 1-2Watson11thAnother late goal causes yet another defeat.
6/11/99Hartlepool UHW 1-0 Campbell9thWe keep picking up points and trundling along in upper-mid-table, but we haven't scored two in a match since the 18th September.
14/11/99Macclesfield TAD 1-1 Mayo11th
23/11/99Lincoln CHD 2-2 Oatway, Rogers11th
27/11/99Northampton THL 1-3Aspinall12thTwo poor results at home dump us down to our lowest position of the season. The first should have been a win, the second was a convincing defeat.
10/12/99RochdaleHL 3-4Aspinall, Cullip, Hart 15thFurther troubles at home, dodgy defending leads to another defeat and we're now firmly rooted in the bottom half of the table.
18/12/199Swansea CAL 0-2 15th
26/12/99BarnetHD 1-1 Watson15thGood to get a point against the league leaders, I suppose, but we haven't won since the 6th November.
28/12/99Rotherham UAW 3-1Freeman, Oatway, Rogers15thThe Albion's last match of the millennium - and a superb team performance sees them beat high-flying Rotherham.
3/1/00Exeter CHW 4-2Freeman, Pinamonte 2, Rogers13th Starting the new year as they finish the old - first back-to-back wins since the first two games of the season. Darren Freeman scores the first goal of the millennium in English professional football!
8/1/00RochdaleAL 0-114th
15/1/00Leyton OrientHL 0-1 14thSo much for the run....
22/1/00Torquay UAD 0-014th... and so much for goalscoring, it seems. That's 386 minutes without one.
29/1/00DarlingtonHD 1-1Hart16thA goal!
1/2/00Mansfield TAL 0-1 16thGetting a player sent off after 4 minutes never helps the situation... the slump continues.
5/2/00Hull CAL 0-2 17th...and continues...
12/2/00Plymouth AHD 1-1 Zamora18th...(yawn)...
19/2/00Northampton TAL 0-1 18th
26/2/00Chester CAW 7-1 Zamora 3 (inc. 1 pen), McPherson, Brooker, Freeman, Rogers18thWell if you're going to break a bad run, not to mention score for the first time away from home in weeks, that is the way to do it! OK, Chester were bottom but you still need to win these games: Chester's biggest ever home defeat and Albion's biggest away win in 70 years! A one-off? Maybe - but who cares......
4/3/00Halifax THW 2-1 Zamora 217thTwo more goals for on-loan Zamora takes his total to 6 in the 4 games he's played for us as the Albion come from behind in a match of three dismissals.
7/3/00Hartlepool UAD 0-0 16th
11/3/00Southend UHW 1-0Hart 15thOn the right end of a 90th minute goal for a change - this has become the best run of the season!
18/3/00Lincoln CAW 3-1 Freeman, Rogers 2Sorry for the lack of league positions or a few games but I couldn't access the website. Anyway, things just kept getting better and better....
21/3/00Macclesfield THW 5-2 Hart, Freeman 2 (incl. 1 pen.), Ramsay 2
25/3/00BarnetAW 1-0Hart
1/4/00Swansea CHD 1-1 Hart
8/4/00Exeter CAD 0-0 12th...until these two draws dent what was becoming a superbly-timed run for the play-offs. Looks like we're too far off the pace now - but it bodes well for next year (hang on, didn't we say that last year?)
15/4/00Rotherham UHD 1-1 Watson
22/4/00York CAD 0-0That's it - we can't make the play-offs any more.
26/4/00Peterborough UHD 0-0
29/4/00Shrewsbury TAW 2-1 Brooker, LingA highly-charged game. Shrewsbury could have got relegated today but the failure of Carlisle and Chester to win keeps them up despite Albion's victory. Albion, comfortably mid-table now, are having a say in the relegation from the league nevertheless. Also 13 games unbeaten.
6/5/00Carlisle UHW 1-0Crosby11thAnd that's the lot: Carlisle still stay up despite this, Shrewsbury save themselves and all we do is manage to go the last 14 games unbeaten. If only they'd played like this all the way through.... still, there is the football fan's eternal cry - "next year!"

9/11/99Peterborough U (replay)H W 3-0Rogers, Carr, MayoAn excellent win against the team top of division 3! Cup wins are rare - it's good to savour (and to score some goals again!)
20/11/99Plymouth AAD 0-0 The Great Escape - down to 9 men with 15 minutes left we hang on for a draw!
30/11/99Plymouth A (replay)HL 1-2 own goal...but not a win in the replay.

7/12/99MillwallHW 1-0 HartAn unexpected win over 2nd division opposition, especially coming in the middle of a bad league run.
11/1/2000BournemouthA L 0-1Not repeated in the next round, however, though it took a 'golden goal' to win the match.
