TICA Registration Numbers

Here is a simple guide to deciphering the registration numbers on the TICA papers.

The first three letters/numbers are your cats ancestry and hybridization code.

The following take the place of the first and second digit:

SB - No cats which are unregistered or of another breed in a three generation pedigree.

If you do not have SB in the first and second characters then you will may see one of the following as the first character:

A - Cat is the product of two cats of different breeds

B - At least one grandparent of a different breed

C - At least one great grandparent of a different breed

If there is an O in the place of the first character it means the cat is not studbook (SB) due to the second character.

If you do not have SB in the first and second characters then you may see one of the following as the second character:

1 - At least one unknown or unregistered parent

2 - At least one unknown or unregistered grandparent

3 - At least one unknown or unregistered great grandparent

If there is an 0 in the place of the second character it means the cat is not studbook due to the first character.

The third character designates the following:

T - (Traditional) - Only the breed in question within a three generation pedigree.

V - (Variant) - Crosses outside the breed but within the breed group within a three generation pedigree.

P - (Permissible) - Crosses outside the breed or breed group which are permitted by the breeding program which has been established for the breed.

N - (Non-Permissible) - Crosses outside the breed or breed group which are not among those which are specifically allowed by the breeding program which has been established for the breed.

You can also have A1T's B1T's, C2T's A3T's, C1N's, A1P's, etc.

Breeding 2 SBT's of the same breed will only give you SBT's. Breeding a SBT to a SBT of ANOTHER breed will give you A0T's. Breeding a A0T to a SBT will give you B0T's. Breeding a SBT to a Leopard Cat will give you A1T's or O1T's depending on if the ALC is registered or not. (anymore they have to be)

How to read the Registration number is easy, the first 3 characters are the Ancestry record.

SBT

The next 6 numbers are the cats birth date.

010497

The last 3 are how many cats before have been registered on that birth date.

001

so the full number for this cat would be,

SBT 010497 001

The cat is at least 4 generations from any outside cross (domestic, unregistered, or wild), it was born on Jan 1, 1997 and was the first cat registered with that birthday.
