N.A.T.I.V.E., INC. AND THE DOG POINT FISH CAMP
Emphasizing Traditional Native American Values from the Tlingit Perspective
N.A.T.I.V.E., INC. is the IRS 501 (C) 3 Non-Profit Umbrella for the following activities:
- Dog Point Fish Camps Summer camping opportunities for children and adults focusing on gathering wild edibles, hunting, and fishing methods and presevation techniques.
- Herring Egg Harvests March and April trips focusing on gathering herring roe and presevation methods.
- Spring Hunting Trips Trips focusing on harvest and preservation techniques of seal and other marine mammals.
- Fall Hunting Trips Trips focusing on harvest and preparation techniques of deer and shellfish.
- Drum Making Winter activity learning how to make traditional drums and drum sticks with local skins.
All of these activities have one theme in common, that is RESPECT as traditionally practiced by our Tlingit Elders. Our goal is to increase the self-esteem of Native and Non-Native children alike through sucess of their efforts and acceptance of responsibilities during these activities. We teach respect for one's self, our peers, our Elders, and all the natural resources surrounding us.
The Dog Point Fish Camp is located approximately 8 nautical miles northwest of Sitka, Alaska and is accessible only by boat or airplane. The use of the camp is made possible by the heirs of the Littlefield Native Allotment at Dog Point.
