According the
Chronicles of Counter-Earth (Books of Gor),
many things make up a Warrior.
The Warrior caste includes infantry, tharlarion cavalry,
and tarnsmen with red, of blood, being their caste color.
From the "Outlaw of Gor", a Warrior may
love, but not show pity; the Gorean is
suspicious of the stranger, particularly
in the vicinity of his native walls.
Indeed, in Gorean the same word is used
for both stranger and enemy.
In "Assassin of Gor" it states
"Goreans are extremely sensitive about
names, and who may speak them. Indeed,
particularly those of low caste, even
have use names, concealing their true
names, lest they be discovered by enemies
and used to conjure spells against them."
From "Beasts of Gor", it states a Warrior
has little patience, and "less
tolerant of pretense then Men of Earth".
In "Tarnsman of Gor", Tarl Cabot comments
"The Code of the warriors, in general,
characterized by a rudimentary chivalry,
emphasizing loyalty to pride chiefs and
the home stone.
From "PriestKings of Gor", "I am of the
Caste of Warriors, and it is in our codes
that the only death fit for a man is that
in battle".
Just a side note, the word Urth is never
mentioned in the Chronicles of Counter-
Earth.
WEAPONS OF GOR
Arrows,Sheaf and Flight
The Gorean sheaf arrow is slightly
over a yard long, the flight arrow
is about forty inches in length.
Both are metal piled and fletched
with three Vosk gull half-feathers.
BOLA
A bola is three long straps of
leather, each about five feet long,
ending in a leather sack, which has
a heavy round metal weight sewn inside.
Crossbow
The crossbow is the assassin's weapon.
Even the weakest Man can utilize it,
and at shorter distances, the crossbow
requires much less skill for accuracy.
Great Bow
The great bow is made of yellow Ka-la-na wood. It is tipped with notched bosk
horn, with a cord of hemp, whipped with
silk, and the roll of sheaf and flight
arrows.
The bow is the height of a tall man;
its back is flat; its belly is half-
rounded; it is something like an inch
and a half wide and an inch and a
quarter thick at the center. it has
considerable force and requires
considerable strength to draw. Nine
arrows can be fired before the first
falls and at point-blank range it can
be fired completely through a four-inch
beam or at two hundred yards it can
pin a man to a wall. It can fire
nineteen arrows in a Gorean Ehn. The
long bow cannot well be used except
in a standing, or at least kneeling,
position and is difficult to use from
the saddle.
Horn Bow
The bow is small, for use from the
saddle, and does not have the range and
power of the Gorean longbow or crossbow,
but at close range, with considerable
force, firing rapidly, arrow after arrow,
it is a fearsome weapon.
Kailla Lance
The lances are carried in the right
fist, easily, and are flexible and
light, used for thrusting. The lances
are black, cut from the poles of young
tem trees. They may be bent almost double,
like finely tempered steel, before
they break. A loose loop of boskhide,
wound twice about the right fist, helps
to retain the weapon in hand-to-hand
combat. It is seldom thrown.
Long Sword
In this scabbard was a sword, a
sword of Torvaldsland, a long
sword, with a jeweled pommel, with
double guard.
Quiva
The Quiva is about a foot in length,
double edged tapering to a daggerlike
point.
Short Sword
A smaller sword, that wine-tempered
blade of fine, double-edged Gorean
steel.
Spear
The spear is seven feet in height,
heavy, with a tapering bronze head
eighteen inches in length. When thrown
with force, it can pierce a shield at
close quarters or bury its head a foot
deep in solid wood.
Tharlarion Lance
No description, but it is mentioned
in the Tarnsmans of Gor.
Trident
The trident is the traditional
weapon of the fisherman of the
western shore and the western islands.
