This website is to help raise the public's knowledge about toxic waste issues. It will concentrate on Wingate, an Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, Superfund site in Southern Florida.
There are numerous Superfund sites, along with many more toxic waste sites around the nation. Many people are not aware if one is near them and most people that do know are unsuccessful in getting governmental aid in getting the site cleaned up.
One such site was Love Canal. Surprisingly this site was actually cleaned up, while many other sites and the concerns of the communities go ignored by the government. Here is a side-by-side comparision between Love Canal and Wingate:

Why was Love Canal considered an emergency in 1980 and cleaned up soon after, when Wingate was put on the Superfund list in 1989 and so far the national and local authorities are still telling the local community that the clean up is still in the developmental stage? Is it because Love Canal was discovered first and so the public was more shocked by it, thus demanding more action? Or was it because Love Canal was in a predominately Caucasian neighborhood and Wingate is in a poorer African-American neighborhood?
