Wenshu Monastery/Temple dates back to the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD). |

Its name, meaning "hollow wood", comes from the name of a famous monk who lived here in the 1600s, who in turn was named after the Buddhist god of supreme wisdom (Hindu Manjusri). |
