Wenshu Monastery/Temple dates back to the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD).
This is the base for Chengdu's Chan (Zen) Buddhist Sect.
Its name, meaning "hollow wood", comes from the name of a famous monk who lived here in the 1600s, who in turn was named after the Buddhist god of supreme wisdom (Hindu Manjusri).
The gentle rain falling on the day we visited it gave a feeling of peace to the temple.
