Hoi An is riverside town of ~75,000 people. It is enchanting, and full of character at every turn. It has been inhabited by the Japanese and the Chinese, and has many old temples, and the remains of some beautiful French colonial architecture. Hoi An is one of those towns that sucks you in, you read about it and plan to stay only a day or two, yet you emerge a week or two later. In the past Hoi An was an important port, being visited by Dutch, Portugese, Spanish, Indian, Filipino, Indonesian, Thai, French, English, American, Chinese and Japanese ships. They came for the famous silk, fabrics and other goods. Nowadays you can walk along the shop filled streets and get almost any article of clothing you want made just for you. You can choose from the designs on the models or just show them a picture of what you want done. Come back a few hours later, or early the next morning, and you have a new pair of pants, a jacket or a funky pair of shoes.
I loved Hoi An for its colonial architecture,
markets and general character as you can
see in these photos. I also have some interesting shots(or so I think)
from outside of Hoi An.
