I've been exploring dinosaur trackways this summer.
Most of the Texas trackways are in the top of the
Glen Rose formation and are likely from Acrocanthosaurus
and Pleurocoelus.
Blanco Site
Sauropod trackways on the Blanco River near Blanco, Texas.
|
San Angelo Site
Permian trackways in San Angelo State Park, Texas. These trackways are actually older than dinosaurian.
They are not very distinct, though numerous. The site can
be hard to find. Bring water if you go in summer.

Glen Rose Site
Dinosaur trackways near Glen Rose, Texas, in Dinosaur
Valley State Park.
|
Leander Site
These theropod tracks are in the South Fork of the Gabriel
River 3 miles north of Leander, Texas. This is a very
accessible site with a great single trackway of 11 tracks.
|
Hondo Creek Site
This site is closed due to vandalism.

crossroads community of Tarpley, on FM 462)

San Marcos Site
"Southwest of San Marcos the Trail highway travels precisely on the Balcones
Fault, (42) illustrating its astonishing geographic demarcation. On the south
side of the highway are dark, rich farm soils on a gentle landscape; immediately
opposite is thin, rocky soil that barely covers the chalky slopes rising to the
hills. The age difference between land on either side of the highway is at least
30 million years.
After a short county-road segment, the route heads north on FM 306 toward one of
the most attractive features on the Hill Country Trail--Canyon Lake. (43) About
six miles north is Wildlife Wilderness, a drive-through exotic animal showcase.
Your travel guide details the park and the preserved tracks at Dinosaur Flats, a
feature of the Trail on FM 2673 along the south edge of Canyon Lake."

Boerne Site
Theropod (Acrocanthosaurus) tracks along Cibolo Creek at the Nature Center at Boerne's Cibolo Wilderness Trail. This trackway is
a cast from the originals that were in the Cibolo creek.
|
Austin Nature and Science Center, Zilker Park
Walk out the back door and down into the small creek to view four really nice
theropod tracks. These are similar to the ones at Leander.
There are also some tracks at the botanical gardens in Zilker Park, but
the area was closed to the public when I went to visit them.
