Dolomite   

PROPERTIES

Distinctive features:  
Pale-coloured massive limestone that often contains small cavities. Sometimes associated with evaporate deposits of gypsum and halite.

Colour: 
Creamy white to pale brown.

Texture and granularity: 
Coarse to fine-grained.

Composition: 
Magnesium carbonate with, at times, small amounts of silica and other derived minerals.

Field associations: 
Often interbedded with calcite-rich limestones, but may form thick massive deposits.

Varities:
Sometimes known as magnesium limestone.

 

OCCURENCE

Worldwide.

 

USES

Aggregate.
