Distinctive features:  
Fine to coarse-grained granoblastic that effervesces in dilute hydrochloric acid. Often banded with various colours and sometimes veined.

Variable: white: cream, grey, red, green and often streaky with light and dark patches.

Fine to coarse-grained, granoblastic.

Calcium carbonate.

Field associations: 
In zones of regionally metamorphosed limestone.

Varieties:
Many, depending on the colour and banding, e.g. Connermara marble, which is pale green.
