Croton
There are many, many offerings in the croton family. They tend to be quite colorful, with variegated leaves. The banana croton, for instance, has banana shaped leaves and yellow speckles on the green leaves. Crotons prefer a sunny location--a southern exposure is a good bet. They are also a little finicky about water, but will usually let you know if they need water. Be careful not to overwater.
