Why Rainforests Are Disapearing

The rainforests are going to vanish by the year 2000.
They are endangered by numerous things. Most rainforests are
located in poor countries. People move in. They cut down trees
for soil for crops. Rainforest soil only lasts two to three
years with out trees. Trees can never be replaced. This is
called "slash ‘n burn". It is the main cause of rainforests
disappearing. Their roots help keep the soil together. The
loose soil will be washed into rivers. This will cause flooding.

POLLUTION! Pollution causes many different effects on the
rainforest. It causes acid rain, which kills plants. Roads
are built for trucks to get lumber for wood products such as
houses and paper. RECYCLE! This kills more plants and trees.
Trees help us breathe. Once they are cut down, all the
carbon-dioxide is put back into the air again.

In some rainforests, people mine for metal, iron and
gold. They make deep holes in the soil. This is bad for
rainforest destruction.
