The Malayan tapir is a very interesting animal. Despite its resemblance to a pig, the tapir is a relative of the horse and rhinoceros. The tapir is part of the scientific order Perissodactyla. Perissodactyla means that the animal usually has an odd number of toes instead of even. The tapir has three toes on each of its front paws, and four toes in each back leg. The tapir is a herbivore. It enjoys plants near the water’s edge the most. The talented swimmers spend a majority of their free time in the water. This queer-looking animal habitats in Southeast Asia and Central and South America. The Malayan tapir can be spotted easily by the white "saddle" on its back. It stands out on the tapir’s dark grey body.
