Recorded directly from Chief Arvol Looking Horse

Long ago, 19 generations, a time when the White Buffalo Calf Woman came to the Pte Oyate or Buffalo Nation. It was a time when prayers were needed because of the sickness among the nations. During this time, the White Buffalo Calf Woman came to the people with the sacred bundle. Stories as told by our ancestors.

It was northeast of the sacred Black Hills. A time when the people were camped. When they were following the buffalo and the buffalo disappeared. So as the people were praying for food and shelter, the people were suffering. Each day scouts were sent out to look for game or buffalo. One day, as two scouts were coming back to the camp, they were sitting on the hill. From the west, they saw a cloud of dust thinking it was made by buffaloes coming back. As they stood up to see what was to come over the hill, a young beautiful lady came over the hill with a bundle in her arms. As she was coming down the hill and up towards where they were, the two scouts started to talk to each other. One scout said, "she's a beautiful woman. I must take her for a wife". His friend said, "no all of the people are suffering and praying. Surely Wakan Tanka or a great spirit must have sent this woman to us." Now as they were talking back and forth, she came closer to them and as she approached them she pointed to the one with the bad thoughts and motioned him to come to her. As he approached her, a white cloud enveloped him. When the clouds lifted he was laying there as a skeleton and as his friend watched him, from his hair, snakes went towards the four directions. An as he looked toward her she said, "go back to the people and tell them what you have seen, for tomorrow I shall return." And as he started to move back in steps and thanked her, he saw that she was carrying a bundle in her arms wrapped in buffalo robe. And as he turned around he walked back towards the camp and as he was leaving she said, "have the people prepare a place for me - an altar". So the next day the people got together an altar with cherry trees and sage and beside the altar stood a teepee in the west with it's door to the east. As the people were waiting she was coming down the hill singing some sacred songs. She came in a clockwise motion where the people were standing and went into the altar. When she laid the bundle down she said, "the red stone is the blood of your ancestors. The stem of the pipe represents the Root Nation. When you put it together and pray to the four directions, Great Spirit, Mother Earth you would come to know your relatives, your grandfathers. You would come to know your seven sacred rites of this sacred bundle and the way of life, the protocols that will be with the sacred bundle." And as she looked towards Chief Buffalo Standing Upright she said, "when you pray, pray to your relatives through the sacred pipe, you try to walk upon Mother Earth in a sacred manner." And as she left towards west she walked ontop the hill then she looked back and she rolled over and she stood up. The people saw a black young buffalo. Then she rolled over again and stood up she bacame a red young buffalo. The third time she rolled over and stood up she bacame a young yellow buffalo. And the last time she rolled over and stood up she became a young white buffalo calf. And she went over the hill as the young white buffalo calf. So the people said that this spirit woman we would call her the White Buffalo Calf Woman and the sacred pipe that she brought we would call it the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe.

Told by our ancestors and I am the 19th generation keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe. That sacred pipe was handed down through a dream or vision but stays in the family's blood line.

This excerpt is from the book, From The Beginning of Life to the Day of Purification, translated by Danaqyumptewa, as told by the late Dan Katchongva of the Sun Clan (Ca. 1865-1972), pages 32 & 33.

The late Dan Kathchongva said:

"We will come together if people all over the world know about it. So we urge you to spread this word around so people will know about it, and the appointed ones will hurry up with their task, to purify the Hopi and get rid of those who are hindering our way of life.

I have spoken, I wish this message to travel to all corners of this land and across the great waters, where people of understanding may consider these words of wisdom and knowledge. This I want. For people may have different opinions about some things, but because of the nature of the beliefs upon which this Hopi life is based, I expect that at least one will agree, maybe even two. If three agree it will be worth manyfold.

I am forever looking and praying eastward to the rising sun for my true white brother to come and purify the Hopi. My father, Yukiuma, used to tell me that I would be the one to take over as leader at this time, because I belong to the Sun Clan, the father of all the people on the Earth. I was told that I must not give in, because I am the first. The Sun is the father of all living things from the first creation. And if I am done, the Sun Clan, then there will be no living thing left on the Earth. So I have stood fast. I hope you will understand what I am trying to tell you.

I am the sun, the father. With my warmth all things are created. You are my children, and I am very concerned about you. I hold you to protect you from harm, but my heart is sad to see you leaving my protecting arms and destroying yourselves. From the breast of your mother, the Earth, you receive your nourishment, but she is too dangerously ill to give you pure food. What will it be? Will you cure your mother's ill's? Or will you forsake us and leave us with sadness. to be weathered away? I don't want this world to be destroyed. If this world is saved, and whoever has stood fast will complete this plan with us, so that we will all be happy in the Peace Way.

People everywhere must give Hopi their most serious consideration, our prophecies, our teachings and our ceremonial duties, for if Hopi fails, it will trigger the destruction of the world and all mankind. I have spoken through the mouth of the Creator. May the Great Spirit guide you on the right path."

Exhibit C Documentation of one site in the importance of the Solstice time.

These chosen pages of information are from the book: Lakota Star Knowledge - Studies in Lakota Stellar Theology, published by Sinte Gleska University, 1992.

[We are in our third year of a four year commitment, the first was at the Devils Tower (real name - Grey Horn Butte) in 1996, the second was in Canada hosted by Chief Sundown of the Joseph Bighead Cree Reserve and this third year is now at Pipestone, moving to the East. Next year will be in the South, completing our circle to the four directions. The chosen date for World Peace and Prayer Day signifies the Solstice time of June 21st and is reflected in the Lakota Star Knowledge excerpt.]

The information contained in this book was gathered from several elders who still held the understanding of the correlation between the oral stories, the star patterns and their connection to their earthly counterpoints. The People realized that there was a vivid relationship between the macrocosm - the Universe or Sky World and their microcosmic world on the Plains. They saw the constant mirroring of - what is above - so it is below.

Their view of the the different patterns of the Sky World was the same pattern on Earth (star map), such as the Pleiades, called "The Seven Little Girls", was associated with Harney Peak. Therefore each spring when the sun moved into that constellation, they would make their journey to Harney Peak, understanding the sign as sacred speech.

The stars themselves were viewed as "The holy breath of the Great Spirit." The consellations reflected the basic symbols of the People, which in turn evolved their sacred stories and beliefs. Both night and day the Lakota lived between stories and symbols written in the sky and mirrored on the earth, which through the mediation of Fallen Star taught them how to establish an authentic relation to the spirit world. [pg. 9]

When the sun moved into it's next constellation signaling the summer solstice time, their circled journey from the Harney Peak area was lead to Grey Horn Butte by a three month journey. This again is associated within the "Heart of Everything that is", the Black Hills, reflecting the mirror of the circle of stars of the Pleaides. At this time, it was important to begin the Sun Dance Ceremony.

The annual ceremonial journey can be stated, succinctly, as follows: During the three month period from spring equinox to summer solstice the sun travels through four Lakota constellations. Three of these stellar groups are connected by Oral Tradition to specific places in the Black Hills. By synchronizing their arrival at each of the three sites to the entrance of the sun into the corresponding constellations, the People were following the sun's path on earth. Furthermore, being at the right places at the right times and doing the appropriate ceremonies, the People hoped to receive spiritual power from the Wakan Waste, the cosmic powers of good. The following was an e-mail sent to our World Peace & Prayer Day website offering assistance:

Hello, my name is Tami. We have just secured the new website, Create Peace.com and would like to help with your networking of your Global Peace Meditation. CreatePeace.com is a webpage made for people, groups, and organizations that promote Peace. We would be happy to include you in our networking so that your global meditation will truly be global. I am including a press release of the highlight of the opening of our page. Please look it over and think of the possibilities. I am in charge of several high profile websites and my ability to network this kind of thing is what I do best. Our contact list now reaches into the 10 thousands and into 26 countries. This is why I was chosen to head up the Great Experiment. Since your meditation is in June....There is so much time that we have to help you network this event and make it truly an EVENT. I would think that given so much time to prepare, it would make a perfect case study for our friends at Princeton to monitor the result of this worldwide focus on that day (after you read the press release below, you will understand what I am referring to ). Please allow me to help you. Thank you. `tami lu

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(This is a working press release but gives you an idea as to what we are doing April 23rd ) "The Great Experiment". Join us in what could be a decisive moment in the evolution of humanity. Tell everyone you know and mark your calendar to participate in the largest, most focused, meditation in the history of the world. Here's the Question: Can millions of people, focusing their minds on inner and world peace, heal the world in an instant? Can we, through scientific and quantifiable means, prove that we are indeed the creators of the world we perceive, and, that by changing our perception, the world itself changes? This is "The Great Experiment." It's time we prove scientifically what the saints and sages have always told us, that we are powerful spiritual beings with the ability to create a world based on the laws of love, instead of the rules of fear. With the help of scientists, we are about to put an end to doubt forever. How this experiment began: Two months ago, James Twyman, author of the best-selling book, "Emissary of Light," was invited by the government of Iraq to perform his "Peace Concert" in Baghdad. The situation seemed desperate. War seemed almost inevitable and diplomatic efforts seemed to have failed. "I was being used by the Iraqi government," Twyman said. "But we had the same goal: to avoid this terrible war. I was given permission to sign the Muslim prayer for peace to Saddam Hussein and I wanted the world to join us in this prayer. Hundreds of thousands of people over the world participated, and when it was complete, I felt a profound shift in the energy of that whole region. Three days later, a peace agreement was signing, something which seemed impossible before the prayer vigil began. But The Story Continues.. "A week later, I was invited by the government of Northern Ireland to sing at Stormout Castle in Belfast the building where the peace talks were being held. For days, bombs were exploding all around that area. Many people were trying to interrupt the peace process and it seemed like the talks might fall apart. Once again, thousands around the world joined us in prayer, and three days later there was a breakthrough in the talks. A peace agreement in May now seems inevitable."
Princeton scientist Dr. Roger Nelson, has measured the statistically significant effect that focused meditations and events have upon the earth's energy field. Dr. Nelson has measured these effects during the GaiaMind Meditation and during Princess Diana's funeral. His studies show that the greatest effects occur when groups synchronize their focus.
During "The Great Experiment," we will meditate upon specific affirmations in unison to achieve the power of a singular group focus. NOW IT IS TIME TO PUT INTO PRACTICE WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW TO BE TRUE: "If enough people join their minds and hearts for peace, we can heal the world."
[The Great Experiment has already taken place. Although the results from the study have not been completed as of yet do to the many variables to consider, CreatePeace.com has already begun assisting in our project on their website and through their global networking.]
