RULES, REGS & INFORMATION PARKING There will be a designated Parking Area. Please have your vehicle in the designated area soon as possible after you get your camp set up. The parking area is a few hundred yards from your campsite (close enough to retrieve anything that you may need to get). WEATHER BE PREPARED! Temperatures may range from daytime high of 70 degrees to a nighttime low of 30 degrees. Rain is not uncommon in February so dress accordingly. Don't forget to bring sunblock for during the day. KEEP IT CLEAN Scouts going camping is a fact of life, so we must be responsible campers, bring plenty of trash bags. Remember pack it in, pack it out, leave no evidence that we were there, so we may return. MEALSLeaders are not camp cooks. Boys should prepare their own meals. Please bring your own food and plenty of pre-cut firewood, or charcoal, Coleman stoves, as there is no firewood in the area. Fires should be built in an environmentally correct way, with an eye for fuel economy and safety. NO PETS - OR SIBLINGS PLEASE!!
Pets and Siblings are distracting and must be watched at all times. Maricopa County does have a lease law, not to mention the hazards of ticks, fleas, and burrs or worse, so please be kind to them and let them stay at home. ENVIRONMENTAL CAMPSITE CAMPFIRES The following illustration depicts what the inspection sheet calls for: Environmental Fire: A minimum 2" to 3" inch space with rocks or bricks under a metal container that does not allow the fire or ashes to touch the bare earth Cleared Area: Four-foot minimum radius from the center of the fire ring
FIRE BUCKETS Fire buckets should be a minimum of one gallon in size and be made of metal not plastic.CIGARETTES, ALCOHOL, FIREARMS, AND FIREWORKS Are not part of this Scout Outing and should be left at home. DRESS CODE: B.S.A. STANDARDS Class "A" Scout Uniforms will be worn to opening and awards ceremonies, your shirt may be a little dirty or wrinkled, but it can still be tucked in and buttoned correctly, the hat, when put on correctly, with the bill to the front will help keep the sun off of your face. The uniform shouldn't be worn sloppy, you are a Scout, wear your uniform with pride. Saturday evening campfire attire may be the class "A" or class "B" uniform. During competition, the class "B" or appropriate casual clothing is in order. Solid color pants with closed toe shoes is acceptable. Don't expect to be awarded a ribbon without the den being properly dressed in Class "A" uniform at the awards ceremony. WATER There is no access to drinking water at the campsite. For your own convenience bring a good supply of water with you for drinking, washing dishes, and if possible a little for personal hygiene. (Suggest that each Den bring 2 gallons per day per person) DEN CHIEFS Den Chiefs are welcome to accompany their dens on campouts, provided that they are presently official and active Den Chiefs of their respective dens. A Den Chief must be a registered Boy Scout at least 12 years old, and act in a mature manner. We recommend that all Den Chiefs be trained. Of course, no Den Chief may compete in the Webelos events. THE STAFF Yes, that’s correct, staff is a special group of people, they are the ones that have given up many hours of their free time, and money, to work as a team to make an outing successful. What makes them so special is that they have all been active in their packs and troop and don’t know how to say no when asked to help provide our youth a quality program. A staff member gets paid the same as all other volunteer leaders, but you can’t take a big smile and a thank you to the bank. TENTS / SLEEPING ACCOMMODATIONS Past experience shows that if you want to get any sleep don’t put any more than two boys to a tent. Boys should share tents and leaders may share tents only if they are married (to each other). HEY SUGAR !
If you limit the intake of sugar and other sweets to the boys on the drive to the outing, you will have a pleasant sleep Friday night, a small amount of sweets Saturday morning and noon, tapering off in the early evening Saturday will let them sleep at night, so you may enjoy the Cracker Barrel. A large problem that is encountered while being in the outdoors is dehydration, its symptoms sometimes take a while to be recognized, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, ugh! Who needs them, the best way to avoid the symptoms is to drink plenty of water, Gator Aid, or juice that's what the body needs, not Kool-Aid and soda. Back to the sugars, save all the sweets that were sent withthe boys to give them a treat for on the way home, they will love it. Let their parents deal with the sugar buzz when they get home.
LATRINES Will be provided Do not dump trash in the latrines Remember, pack it in, Pack it out!!
This is a sanitary way of disposing of human waste, not a play area, leave other people alone while they are using them!!!
DESERT SAFETY
Remember that we will be camping in the desert, there are creatures that call this place home and sometimes get upset when we humans don’t respect their privacy by poking around their turf, even though they would just as soon mind their own business, we are trespassing in their area and they will protect it. Common sense should prevail in our actions, avoid confrontation with them. A word to the wise leader, have the scouts use the buddy system and don’t go poking around in places they shouldn’t be poking. Be sure you have a medical release form with you for each boy in your charge in the event of any type of accident. Be sure to bring a fully equipped first aid kit on all outdoor events and have leaders trained how to treat emergencies and not panic. Please notify Headquarters of any accident or illness. LIGHTS OUT
Some reminders may be needed for the more "enthusiastic" units. Lights out means no more loud talking. Esprit de corps becomes less obvious now and conversation should involve only tent mates. CAMPSITES Please respect the other campsites, they are the other peoples home for the weekend, so don't walk, run, jog, hop or what ever you want to call it, through their homes without first asking permission. This includes cruising through Staff area or Headquarters on your way to or from an event. Rock barriers or flagging of campsite perimeter is not necessary and does not count for or against your campsite inspection score. CRACKERBARREL ALL ADULTS WELCOME Time to wind down after a challenging day. Join us at cracker-barrel which will be on a positive note! This is a good time to meet with other Scout Leaders, Parents and other fun people to discuss the highlights of a fun weekend and promote the Scouting Spirit. Please rotate the adults so that every one has a chance to socialize, but making sure there is at least two adults at the campsite. You can make your program better by completing the attached critique sheet with recommendations and suggestions. This information will be reviewed by the camping committee for future planning.
SKITS OR SONGS
Show your scout spirit and do one or both (in good taste), submit the sign-up sheet to Headquarters by prior to 4:30 PM Saturday. No form, no skit or song will be scheduled for you! Please rehearse your skits or song and speak or sing with a strong voice so that the people in the back rows will be able to hear you. Leaders if you have a noisy group be sure to let them do all the talking while they are doing there song or skit not when another den is doing theirs. Skit Registration Form
Skits always play an important part of a campfire. Does your group have a skit? Here's your chance to show your talents. Leaders submit this form before 4:30 PM Saturday at the camp Headquarters. Hints: Skits should be no longer than 5 minutes; they should have a scouting theme; they should be well rehearsed.
