Troop 30 Scouters To run a quality program any organization needs a motivated and well trained team. Troop 30 is proud of the number of dedicated and involved adults (Scouters) who freely give "an hour a week" to the Troops program. Included in our Troops leadership we have 19 Wood Badge recipients. The Wood Badge is the highest recognition for advanced Scout Leader Training. We also count among our leadership six Silver Beavers. This award is presented by National Court of Honor for Distinguished Service to Youth. Below you will find a brief bio on many of our Troop Scouters. TROOP 30 SCOUTERS Dr. Bob Bohanske has been registered in Scouting for thirty-two years. He is currently the Scoutmaster of Troop 30 and a Merit Badge counselor. He has served previously as a Den Leader, Tiger and Den Leader Coach, Webelos Leader, Cubmaster, Pack and Troop Committee member and Committee Chairman, Roundtable Commissioner, Unit Commissioner and Scoutmaster of an all Disabled Unit. He earned the Arrow of Light in Cubs and achieved Scouting's highest Award, Eagle in Boy Scouts. He is a Brotherhood member of the Order of Arrow. He has served as District Membership Chairman and a member of the District Training Committee. He has also been on the Council Training and Membership Committees. Bob is Philmont and Wood Badge (Buffalo) trained. Bob has completed the Wood Beads (Hippo) Program in England (Stainsby). He has the District Cub Scout Hall of Fame Award for Cubmaster, the District Scout Hall of Fame Award for Assistant Scoutmaster, the District Scout Hall of Fame Award for Scoutmaster, the District Award of Merit, Shofer Award, and the Silver Beaver Award. He holds the Arrowhead Honor and completed the Henry Award (University of Scouting). He has directed or been on staff for multiple Webelosrees, Camporees, Cub Basic Leader Trainings, Commissioner Training, Train the Trainer, Junior Leader Trainings, Pow-Wow and Webelos Leader Overnight Trainings. Bob has two sons. Michael is an Eagle Scout and Jason is a Star Scout. Dr. Bob is Clinical Director of Southwest Behavioral Health.Carolyn Brandenberger has been registered in Scouting for seven years. She is currently a Committee Member Troop 30 and an Assistant District Commissioner. She has Cub Basic Leader Training (Pack Admin.), Webelos Leader Overnight, Youth Protection, Commissioner Training, Youth Protection Trainer Training, Commissioner College and is Cub Wood Badge Trained (Fox) Scout Wood Badge (Eagle). She has been on staff for multiple Webelosrees, and Cub Basic Leader Trainings. She has earned her Cub Scouter Knot, Webelos Leader Knot, Commissioner's Arrowhead, and Commissioner's Key. Carolyn has received the District Cub Scout Hall of Fame Award for Committee Member, Scout Spirit Award and the District Award of Merit. Carolyn has served as the Grand Canyon Council Popcorn Chairman as well as the Four Peaks District Popcorn Chairman and Pinewood Derby Chairman. She is currently a member of the District Activities Committee and Cub Leader Training Program. She has two children. Carolyn is an Institutional Investment Sales/Trading Assistant.Karl Brandenberger has been a registered Scouter for twelve years. He has been an Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster with Troop 30, and is currently a committee member and our Unit Commissioner. He has Adult Leader, Youth Protection, University of Scouting (Henry Award), Wood Badge (Bear), Cub Basic Leader Training (Webelos Leader), Webelos Leader Overnight, and Commissioner training. He has previous service in Cub Scouts as a Den Leader Coach, Webelos Leader, and as a Unit Commissioner. Karl has received his Webelos Leader Knot, Commissioner Arrowhead, NRA Sharpshooter, Scouter's Key, the District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver. He also is a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. He has received the New Scoutmaster award and the District Hall of Fame Awards for Roundtable commissioner. He has been on staff for multiple Webelosrees, Cub Basic Leader Trainings, and Webelos Leader Overnight Trainings and on Wood Badge Staff. Karl has three children. He is a Retired Phoenix Police Officer and is currently a Federal Investigator. Doug Buchanan has been a registered Scouter for one year. He is currently a Committee Member with Troop 30. His son Mark is a Second Class Scout. Doug is a CPA. Michael Childress has been a registered Scouter for six years. He is currently an Assistant Scoutmaster, Merit Badge Counselor for Troop 30 and an Assistant Cubmaster for Pack 619. Mike has served as a Den Leader, Webelos Leader and Cubmaster. Wood Badge (Owl) Trained. He has Basic Leader Training, Adult Leader Training and Youth Protection. He has earned his Cubmaster and Cub Scouter knots and received the District Scout Hall of Fame Award for Assistant Scoutmaster. Mike is married with four children. His son Michael is a Star Scout. Michael is an Architect with Alexander Homes. Ed Cocca has been a registered Scouter for three years. He is currently an Assistant Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor for Troop 30. Ed has Adult Leader Training, Train the Trainer and Scout Wood Badge Training (Beaver). He is married and has two sons Matt who is a Star Scout and Daniel who is a Cub Scout in Pack 618. Ed is self-employed as a Trainer/Consultant. Kathy Cocca has been a registered Scouter for seven years. She is currently the Financial Chairman and Committee Member for Troop 30 and has been a Committee Member for Pack 618 since 1994. Kathy has chaired many Fundraising events for both the Troop and Pack. She has received several District Hall of Fame Awards for Committee Member. Kathy He is married has two sons Matt who is a Star Scout and Daniel who is a Cub Scout in Pack 618. Kathy is self-employed as an Engineering & Business System Consultant.Kim Connors has been a registered for four years. She is currently a Committee member, Membership and Advancement assistant, and a Merit Badge Counselor for Troop 30. She has previously been an assistant Webelos leader, Webelos leader and a Tiger Coach. She has completed Youth Protection Training, Cub Basic Leader Training, Webelos Leader Overnight Training, Adult Leader Training, & Boy Scout Wood Badge (Bear). She has attended Pow-Wow and the University of Scouting. She has earned her Webelos Knot and received the District Hall of Fame Award for Webelos Leaders and the District Hall of Fame Award for Scout Family. She has staffed the Troop Webelosree. She is currently a student at Phoenix College and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and a member of the National Dean’s List. Kim is married and has two children. Heather is a member of her High School band and Matthew is a Star Scout. Her husband, Shawn is the Troop Mule. Shawn Connors is currently a Committee Member and Merit Badge Counselor. He is married and has two children. Heather is a member of her High School band and Matthew is a Star Scout. Shawn is the "Troop Mule". She is currently the Treasurer, Merit Badge Counselor and on the Court of Honor Committee for Troop 30. She is married with two sons. Loren and Brett are both Life Scouts. He has served previously as a Cubmaster, Unit Commissioner, Assistant District Commissioner and Roundtable Commissioner. He has been a member of the Four Peaks & North Star Districts Camping and Training Committees. He is currently a Committee Member and Merit Badge Counselor for Troop 30, as well as a Webelos Leader in Pack 546. He is also an Instructor for Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat. He started his scouting as a Bobcat, going through Cubs and then into Boy Scouts achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Wayne has Cub Basic Leader Training, Scout Adult Leader Training and Scout Wood Badge (Owl). Wayne has also served in almost every leadership role in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorers. He has two sons, Jake is an Eagle Scout. He and wife Shirley both enjoy being Campmasters at the Heard Scout Pueblo. He is currently a Committee Member with Troop 30. Gary has completed Adult Leader Training. He is married with three children. His son Brent is a Star Scout and son Brian is a Tenderfoot Scout. Daughter Karrie is a Girl Scout. Gary is a Biomedical Engineer.Dr. Lynn Mitchell is currently a Committee Member and Merit Badge Counselor for Troop 30. She is married and her son Ian is a First Class Scout. Lynn is a Physician and a former school psychologist. Dan Myers has been a registered Scouter for nine years. He is currently a Committee Member with Troop 30 and the Committee Chairman of Pack 619. He as served as a Den Leader, Webelos Leader, Den Leader Coach, Cubmaster and Asst. Cubmaster. He is married with five children. His son Patrick is a Second Class Scout. Linda Presti has been a registered Scouter for three years. She is currently a Troop 30 Committee member. Linda has an Associates Degree in Community Mental Health and has worked with mentally and physically challenged young adults. Linda’s other experience working for/with children include: summer camp counselor, after school teen program coordinator, PTSA Vice President, PTSA President, girls volleyball coach, junior bowling league coach, and Girl Scout assistant leader. She received the District Hall of Fame Award for Scout Spirit. Linda has been employed at American Express for the last 12 years and is the Director of the Phoenix Fraud Investigations group. Linda has a daughter attending Arizona State University, and her son Matt is a Life Scout in Troop 30. Dinah Rose is currently a Committee Member with Troop 30. She was a Den Leader in Pack 607. Her son Kyle is a Star Scout. Dinah is self-employed as a writer/communicator. Alan Rothstein has been registered in Scouting for eight years. He is currently a Committee Member for Troop 30 and Webelos Leader in Pack 618. Alan has served previously as a Den Leader and as an Assistant Scoutmaster. She is married and has 2 children, Nicholas, who is a First Class Scout, and Cassandra, who is a Brownie Girl Scout Dave Walvick has been registered in Scouting for nine years. He is currently an Asst. Scoutmaster for Troop 30. He has previously served as a Den Leader, Cubmaster and Unit Commissioner. He is currently the Chartered Representative for Troop 30 and on the Council Religious Committee. He earned his Eagle Rank in 1953. He has Adult Leader and Wood Badge Training (Bear). Dave has earned his Wood Badge Beads. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow. Dave has received the District Scout Hall of Fame Award for Charter Representative, District Award of Merit and received the Shofer and Silver Beaver Awards.
