Two wooden beads attached to a thin length of leather thong, they don't look like much, but to a Scout Leader they carry a special meaning. Known in some Scout Associations as the Wood Badge( WOSM) and in others as the Wood Beads (WFIS), this set of beads is recognized world wide as the symbol of Advanced Scout Leader Training. It is a statement of dedication, leadership and until 2001*, Scout Craft skill. Below is a list of Troop 30 Scout Group Wood Badgers. * In 2001 the Boy Scouts of America changed the Wood Badge program in the United States to reflect what they believe is in the best interest of Scout Leader Training. The New 21st Century Wood Badge is a great overview of situational leadership as it applies to the scope of BSA programs. While it is wonderful that the American Scout leaders now have a formal leadership training program it is very sad to see the continued de-emphasizing of traditional Scout Craft and Wood Craft skills. We must remember that Scouting is OUTING. While we need good leaders we also need those Leaders trained in Outdoor skills. As of 2001 BSA has NO formal "advanced" outdoor skills training, and has restricted the involvement of traditional Wood Badge trained leaders in the "new program".
