We moved around in Mexico City,
lived in Atlanta Georgia for a year and a half and ended up in Toluca,
the capital of the State of Mexico. Lived in Toluca for the rest
of my teenage life, finished high school and finally thought about
a major I would like to get a degree in: Biology.
I did some college studies at the
Tech of Monterrey, a private technological college where they did
not have any biology related careers, so ended up taking something
easy like communications. I'm glad that was not my final option,
I had planned to study in the States and was just hoping to get
ahead in a few credits.
While still in high school and beginning
college in Mexico I took up the greatest sport ever: ROCK CLIMBING!
I had never in my life encountered something so fun, fulfiling and
exciting, I was hooked.
Once I relocated my studies to Tennessee
Tech, I chose Environmental Biology as my major because it had an
alluring name and sounded like something that I would like to do
for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, I found out thru a few classes,
like Organic Chemistry and Calculus, that it was not quite what
I expected. After some tough decisions and hard, sleepless nights
trying to figure out what to do, I chose a major quite similar to
Environmental Biology, but with much less math. Conservation Biology
seemed to be oriented a bit more to my original goals anyway, like
more outdoor time especially camping and my all time favorite, climbing.
The picture above isn't me, yet, but that is one of my goals, to
climb internationally and do multiple pitch climbs, while having
to camp out on the porta-ledges.
I have been fortunate to continue
climbing throughout my college life, mostly on the weekends, at
a nearby natural wall. Gaining six years of climbing experience
and leadership while setting up the pitches, or organizing camping
trips, have helped me find a sense of responsibility and maturity,
while insuring the safety of the group.
As I continue with my life; get
near the end of my undergraduate studies, hopefully by December
2002; and learn more about this World and myself; I hope to keep
climbing away, going to strange new places and meeting new people.
