Background
According to the BPS (Central Office of Statistics), the amount
of poor people in Indonesia is about 78, 9 million. But if we look at the
equivalent of the exchange value of rice (kg/person/year), then the amount
is already 116 million people. If the condition of our national economy
does not improve, a rise of the amount of poor people will be unavoidable
and the suffering of these will be even more.
Departin from this reality, "Bandung Peduli" intends to intensify
its frequency of initiatives and also would like to add new projects, especially
to help those people who are living below the line of poverty and that
are even threatened by starvation. It is hoped that the new program will
help to ease the fate of some hungry people in Indonesia, especially those
who live in Bandung and its surroundings.
The focus of "Bandung Peduli"'s activities is targeted at some
10.430 people in Bandung area who are threatened by starvation. These are
people with a monthly spending per kapita below 15.000 Rupiah (US $ 1 /month).
The second target are some 37.995 people with a monthly spending between
15.000 and 20.000 Rupiah (US $ 1 - 1,5 /month). The third target are about
248.686 people were the similar range is between 20.000 and 30.000 Rupiah
(US $ 1,5 - 2/month) in Bandung district and aditionally 28.892 people
in Bandung capital.
Nevertheless one has to take into account the limited ability and capacity
of "Bandung Peduli" that is only able to take care of about 1000
families (i.e. about 5000 people) each month or about 60.000 threatened
people in a year.
