Planting time: Late Summer to June. (Later planting yields later flowers so you can stagger the flower display).
Note: Plant with claws downwards.
Height: 50-90cm
Depth: 5-10cm deep.
Spacing: Aspect: Full sun
Soil: For best results, the soil must be well drained and rich to at least 30cm
Watering: During germination & early growth always keep soil slightly moist. Drying out at this stage is a common cause of failure. Stop watering once foliage yellows.
Fertilising: Very heavy feeders especially the Picasso because they have little of their own reserves and produce many flowers. So work in lots of fertiliser prior to planting and also top dress or liquid feed regularly during flowering. A complete fertiliser is appropriate.
Flowering time: Depends on planting. Generally from mid Spring.
After flowering care: Leave the bulbs undisturbed. You can remove the foliage once it has died back. These bulbs naturally degenerate over a number of years and need replacing every 2nd or 3rd year.
Comments: If lifting, first loosen the soil with a fork, then pull out by the stalks, tie up and dry in a cool spot. Then cut stalks off and store the bulbs in an open box or net bag. 1
