Crinum powellii 'Alba'
Family: Amaryllidaceae
Native to: South America
Bloom season: February - April
Colour: White
Height:70cm to 1m tall.
Planting time: Spring
Preferred position: Full sun to part shade.
Preferred climate: Cool to Tropical.
Soil: Rich and well drained but generally tolerant.
Planting depth & spacing: Plant with the top of the bulb just above the soil surface and 15-30cm apart.
Watering: Ensure the soil is kept moist once the foliage appears until the flowers have finished. However, will also tolerate dry shade areas.
Frost: Sensitive.
Fertiliser: General purpose fertiliser.
Climates: This bulb will flower in all Australian climates and will easily tolerate light frosts. If you live in a frosty area, simply plant under the shelter of trees or plant in pots which can be moved to a sheltered spot in frosty times.
Comments: These bulbs are very easy to grow and prefer to be left undisturbed for many years - in fact, sometimes they take a year to settle in before they flower - but it's worth the wait! Also useful in Dry-shady areas.
