WOLF BAND OF THE ME'TIS NATION
OF THE UNITED STATES

WELCOMES YOU!

We are the WOLF BAND of the Me'tis Nation of the United States and have come together to celebrate our similarities and "respect" our differences. We are of "mixed blood" heritage, blending our customs, traditions, and beliefs together to help unite and preserve our people.

ME'TIS PROCLAMATION
We are Me'tis, with roots and rights that extend 9,000 years into this continent. We are neither "First Nations", nor "Inuit", nor are we European Immigrants to this land. Instead, we are the middle-ground between camps people; the compromise between differences and, the dawn that separates night and day.

We are NOT half-breeds, but the children born of a marriage between two very different worlds. Our right and purpose is to strengthen the voice of justice and bend the arm of greed, whose hand has taken far too much from the mouths of the meek. The very duality of our heritage appoints us, and no other, to the task of mediating between the new and ancient ways, that we might be the People to strike a chord of lasting harmony amidst the mounting chaos of nations. The essence of our uniquely diverse culture is Harmony, for in the moment of our conception there was a union, the birth of the Me'tis Nation signifies the undeniable powers of those possessed of tolerance and the gentle spirit of compromise.

The birthright of our people is to mediate on behalf of justice and common good for both our parent strains, and bring forth a means of governance that protects and prospers all who would be unjustly treated. To be Me'tis is to be blessed with the best fruit of not one, but two family trees. We are not "half" of anything, but doubled. Being twice blessed, we are likewise proud, strong and determined.

ARE YOU ME'TIS?

ME'TIS: A mixed blood ethnic race of people who are of aboriginal American heritage, with European and/or African Heritage.

The Me'tis people of today are a combination of various races who derive from aboriginal American Indian ancestry. The Me'tis people vary from each other in respect to religious beliefs, traditions, and tribal culture. The reasons make no difference as long as it brings you closer to your Creator.

The Me'tis are the product of European Immigrants and/or African slaves, and North American aboriginal peoples. The Me'tis government was formed in 1869 by Louis Riel. Through many battles and many years, the Me'tis fought to protect their land rights, preserve Native traditions, and prevent further encroachment of white settlers. The Me'tis Nations civil rights are enshrined in the Canadian Constitution alongside the First Nation and Inuit peoples Bill of Rights. These are the ONLY THREE nations recognized by the Canadian government.

The United States government does not yet fully recognize the Me'tis Nation. However, with over 30 Million Me'tis, and the full support of the Canadian government, who does recognize the Me'tis, our time is now! The Me'tis Nation of the United States is a rapidly growing nation of people governed by the Me'tis National Council. In 1997, the Me'tis Nation was formed under the guidance of the Canadian Me'tis Council. The Me'tis of the United States bases their constitution on the Canadian Me'tis Constitution.

The Me'tis people have become a distinct race of people in the North American Continent. Today there are approximately 30 million Me'tis people in the United States, alone. The full bloods who reside on reservation land often have difficulty accepting Me'tis for a variety of reasons, some of which are because of laws imposed upon reservations for rations, money, or land. The Whites have difficulty accepting Me'tis because of our Indian blood and thus, considered us "savages" like our cousins, the full bloods. The Me'tis are tired of being "outcasts", or being ashamed of their Indian bloodlines. We are fighting for our rights to exist in this country as a People who are proud of their Unique Heritage!

The primary objective of the Me'tis Nation is to encourage and promote full participation and acknowledgement of the Me'tis People in the United States through Me'tis culture, customs, and self-identity. The definition of Me'tis by the National council and Canadian Me'tis government is as follows:

a) All persons of aboriginal heritage of the North American (First Nation people).

b) Me'tis community acceptance.

c) Self-Identification

d) All persons intermarried with any such Aboriginal people.

e) Any person who is officially and traditionally adopted into a family or tribe in sacred traditional manner by any person(s) meeting the above criteria, and approved by the National Council.

Our enrollment cards read, "THE BEARER OF THIS CARD IS OF AMERICAN NATIVE DESCENT, WHOSE LINEAGE IS INDIGENOUS TO NORTH AMERICA. AND IS AN ACCEPTED MEMBER IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONSTITUTIONAL BY-LAWS OF THE ME'TIS NATION OF THE UNITED STATES. *ME'TIS IS DEFINED AS A MIXED BLOOD MEMBER OF AN ABORIGINAL NATION, IS FULLY RECOGNIZED BY THE ME'TIS NATIONAL COUNCIL OF CANADA. *JAY TREATY-1794 (1) Between US & Canada.

No individual may be considered for Me'tis citizenship if they hold any identification card that is recognized by the "Bureau of Indian Affairs" (B.I.A.). This is for Non-status individuals of mixed blood aboriginal heritage.
