About my hobbies... well, I must say I have lots of them... I am not the type of person that can stick to only one thing, so I enjoy looking for new things to do in my free time.
Some of my multiple hobbies are:
The Lion King. Yes. You read correctly. For me, it is more than a kids' movie. It is more than "just another Disney thing". The Lion King is a Way of Life, and its power will never fade. I've seen the movie 159 times now, I know it by heart in English and Spanish, I have three versions of the movie: Mexican version, English version with subtitles and English version with closed caption. I collect lots of things related to the Lion King. My favorite character is Scar, the most handsome thing on four legs ;) Why Scar? You can click here to find out. LONG LIVE SCAR!
Another hobbie would be playing the piano. I have liked piano since I was a kid, but I started playing in a small Yamaha Portasound keyboard. My parents noticed I wasn't so bad for playing after all and decided to buy me a bigger keyboard, this time a Casio one. I learned to play it quite well, but I still dreamed of having a real piano someday. My dream came true in October 12th, when dad surprised me in the piano store saying he would buy one for me. It is one of the most precious gifts he has given to me, and I will be grateful to him always. I love playing all types of music, classical specially. My favorite composer is Chopin, then comes Beethoven, Bach and Mozart. I also like playing Disney music, either on the Casio keybord or on the piano, such as "Part of this world" (The little Mermaid), "A whole new world" (Aladdin), "Beauty and the Beast" (no need to mention the name of the movie),"Colors of the Wind" (Pocahontas) and, of course, THE LION KING!!! I can play almost all the songs of the soundtrack, except the instrumental tracks "To die For" and "Under the Stars", from which I still have to learn the left hand's part, and the track "Hyenas", which I haven't even tried to play. (I play by ear as well as by note). I also like composing music.
Writing is a great hobby I discovered a few months ago. I have written some
poems, some short stories and a big, lengthy story related to the Lion King,
divided in three books. (Might turn into four!)
(See the Stuff I've written section for more info)
I still have to translate the rest of the books to English. Hope I can do it
soon! :)
I love listening to music! All types of music, I don't care... Classical,
pop, sometimes heavy metal, African, New Age...
My favorite singers, groups, CD's, etc., are:
Elton John, specially his album "Love Songs", which reminds me of one of the
people I love with all my heart.
Music of the 80's, like A-ha, Toto, the Bangles and such.
Angélique Kidjo, she is from Benin and she sings really cool!! I strongly
recommend the album "Fifa". (That is if you like African music)
Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens, cool songs, cool rhythm, cool group.
African style too.
Lebo M., this guy is absolutely wonderful. I love the "Rhythm of the
Pride Lands" CD. If you like African music, you should listen to this one!
Mecano, this one is a Spanish group with very cool songs.
All the relaxation, meditation and sounds of nature stuff. I just love it,
it really relaxes you. :)
I also like dance music. (Nigel, that cassette of yours rules! Lah dah dee... ;) )
Faithless has some good songs too! ("Insomnia" and "Save me" are my favorites)
I enjoy reading too, some of my favorite writers are Jack London, Horacio Quiroga, Leon Tolstoi and others. Oh! I almost forget to mention a couple of excellent writers who have made me cry, laugh, sigh, smile, think and learn through their stories: John Burkitt and David Morris.
