While we were still looking for a way to make Canela behave, someone told us that when a female dog had puppies, she turned into a more passive animal, sometimes possesive. We decided to give this theory a try, and waited until Canela was in season. However, there was the problem of what would we do with the puppies. Mom didn't want more animals inside the house, that was obvious. We thought on giving them to the vet as soon as they had the expected age, and he would take care of them and find homes for them too.
A cousin of mine had a friend, owner of a very nice black Labrador dog. The dog, whose name was Ezra, seemed to like Canela, and Canela loved to play with him. However, he met her before Canela was in season, so, the dog didn't pay too much attention on her. But that changed when months later I phoned my cousin's friend (or he phoned me, can't remember exactly) and I told him that Canelita was in heat. (Canelita is diminutive for Canela, it's like saying little Canela) He brought his dog again to my house, and Ezra showed a completely different behavior towards Canela. He jumped at her, he played, he licked her face and so on. But she never accepted his approaches. They spent almost two days together, and nothing happened between them. If it did, well, then no puppies came out of it. And Canela's aggressive and active temperament continued to be the same...
There was a time in which we thought Canela was really expecting puppies, because she seemed a little more calm, and she was lying down all the time, licking her stomach continously. But it didn't last for long. Maybe it was one of those psychologic pregnancies... who knows.
