heir to the media dynasty
who delights in crippling horses

its a clash of egos
and the sweat of a century means nothing

the pokies whir and glasses clink,
but the game is put on hold
as money floods the field.

their false rhetoric hides their similarity,
they both barrack for the same team - greed.

The Goanna licks it lips as the ego-flexing ends
for now ‘enemies’ are ‘friends’.
The posturing ends,
and now begins the next search,
for the next piece of puff to warm the fish-and-chips
or lead the 6pm news.

it's all for the good of the game,
and that 's exactly what it is to them.
