Alternate Reality

If she came his way
he’d not let her go
without a fight
no fright at approach,
he’d know, what to do?

no stupid insecurity
no overblown humility
he’d be confident
not so reticent

If she made the play
he’d let her know
with delight
no bright stupidity
he’d show what he felt

no comic hilarity
no false gentility
he’d be charming
not so disarming

If she was really there
he’d make her care
for his soul
no light dismissal
he’d throw off doubt

no silly musings
no brain fusings
he’d be me
not this reality
