Approachable

The pen on paper won’t hide me -
I can camouflage myself in real life,
here I try and speak my mind,
speaking clearly of what I can see.

Do we sacrifice complexity for popularity?
This is a question born of arrogance,
a belief that we can only be ocean deep
if we promote big words over clarity.

Keeping it simple isn’t being stupid -
I love you is but three simple words
that are complex in conveying so much
Our meanings can be too carefully hid.

You can keep on speaking only to your friends
and to those who hide in literary magazines
There’s nothing wrong with saying it simply,
approachable and ajar is the verse I rend.
