Dark Lakes

The darkness overwhelms us all
leaving us wondering...what?
is out there, what is inside?

truth is denied and we are blind
as we fumble in the gloom
unable to see the compass

we meander through melancholy
trying to navigate the mist -
understanding that what we touch
is not always what is felt

overbearing
underwater of base motives
overreaching
words that can’t describe
overarching
theories that elude wholeness

understand
its your hand on the rudder
of fates tiny boat
lapped by waves of doubt
on life’s seaweed shores

under the dark moon
we struggle for knowing more
but we settle for less
comforting in its cosy emptiness
we are consumed parts
in a whole question

never answering back
the musings trail into night,
trailing behind us
as we struggle for the safety
of the sometimes rocky shore
we don't know exactly what we're doing,
but we're heading somewhere
