Lifecycle

An egg is left underneath a leaf
inside life’s key is unlocked
slowly stirring in formation
the growth of being is sheltered,
forged in a fragile fashion

its time to burst forth
for the first time,
eating away the former home
the many legs cling tightly to
the branch in vigorous embrace

the tiny mouth chomps happily
feeding on much needed leaves
impatient legs carry a destiny
this adolescence is a minute eon
a prelude to transformation

this busy youth goes to sleep
and a wall of secrets is built
whilst nature works its timely magic
gradually building on expectation
a second brilliant life is born in colour

the beauty is not eternal
its splendour merely ephemeral
the cycle ends and begins again
beauty will grow, live and die
while a world of wonder moves on
