Parading down the Bourke Street Mall

There are feet everywhere
   are they going
      or are they coming?

The feet seem disconnected
for they generally tire
while the mind or eyes wander
the feet betray the body,
sending it into a collision trajectory
numerous bipedal pile-ups occur,
on these highways one easily finds treachery
just lean the wrong way and confusion sets in,
just which way are you going,
just what do you think you’re doing?

My feet they get me into trouble,
they’re so big they get in the way
taking me places I really shouldn’t go,
I stick them in my mouth at the table

size elevens are way too big for me,
one whose height is so average
I should be clumsy and always falling
really can’t see how I manage

there are feet cooking in their own juices
others being bruised every day
some are placed on precarious pedestals
see the bare feet liberated yesterday!

Some think you are what you’re wearing
stilettos mean your sexy, suave, savvy
sports shoes mean you run all day
fmbs are out in force,
but wearing Docs doesn’t make you caring

I look up
there are still feet everywhere
different feet on the street
mine are still stuck to the end of my legs
the others just fleeting glimpses
feet that are coming closer
feet that are going away
