Pollution Solution?

Here’s the solution
   the plan, the end
all our problems   gone
   the pollution gone too

are you listening
ready, got your pen and paper
your 6pm news crew,
screaming headline, late night analysis
talkback ranting, panel discussion,
high school debate, research essay,
government inquiry, scientific symposium

are you still there?

Here it is, I saw it today
printed in thick letters
   they call them headlines,
even when they scrape the bottom of the barrel
takes ‘em ages to think them up

PLAN TO SAVE PLANET

DUMP

             WASTE

                             IN
 
                                    THE OCEAN

pretty convincing eh?

All the chlorine
all the oil, the plastic
the stuff we don’t want
mostly don’t want to produce
we will put it in a safe place,
far away from our kids,
our homes, our noses
our minds, our backyards

must be cause the rich can smell it

of course the fish don’t get a vote
the protests of whiting will pass by
and the sharks
   well, we all know they don’t count
and anyway they eat garbage all the time

so bring us your overpackaging,
your pre-planned obsolescence
even your poisonous wastes
a permanent home has been found

no more landfill mounds,
to the ocean it goes, with haste
all our overproduced consumer waste

I'd like to be
under the sea
in a brand new garbage tip
in the shade
