Rejection

she finally dared to ask him
plucking courage on a whim
to boldly put the question
of a possibly shared attraction

no preparation proved adequate
for a rejection oh so delicate
his carefully considered words
cutting to the quick, they hurt

her being wrought with pain
that she should be so vain!
assertiveness lying unrewarded
a grim burden of doom descended

down, how could she go further?
the dreary moment was forever
she stood there, wishing she could go,
her spirit crushed by a politely put "no"

so much stupidly invested
seemingly warm waters tested
only to be found shivering cold
she would and could not be told

another would never compare
to his masculine charm, his hair,
his a body a temple she could worship
from afar, while he kissed other lips

these mulitple confusions were instants
...in their demise, her easy confidence
spoke silently, proudly , loudly
"he’s such a fool, what did I see?"

because she didn’t bare her soul
she lost only a part, not the whole
heart though scarred, remained true
love wouldn’t tear her being in two

no, her spirit wasn't broken, wasn't gone
he was only a man, she could carry on
