Word Machine

I am building a word machine
Bit by bit, line by line
A creation evolves
That I might call mine
If it turns out alright
I just might tell the world 
although I'm not sure about a patent
as profit's not my major motive
perhaps it will be used and maybe even quoted
showing an artificial intelligence
and moving off the page
into other media
the spoken word and stage

and if someone tries to build another
it won't be quite the same
because they're not me
and building word machines
well, it's a tricky game
there's always a part to add
and modifications to be made

when you criticise my word machine
please give consideration
to the purpose it was built for
to the hours I slaved away
putting each part into place
and how I tried to make it work
if only in the strangest way
