Some Features of Biophotons and their Interpretation in Terms of Coherent States- Fritz-Albert Popp, International Institute of Biophysics (Biophotonics) Raketenstation, 41472 Neuss, Germany
"There is only one possible vehicle for conducting this concert of up to millions of reactions per second and per cell: non-thermal photons which provide the right quantum energies at the right place and at the right time. Thus, one has to stress that (1) it is impossible that thermal photons may trigger the biochemical reactions in a living system, and (2) that theoretically only one photon per cell could be sufficient for activating 109
reactions per second, provided that it originates from a coherent photon field. If this field is a coherent and non-thermal one, it is theoretically able to borrow the photon energy at the right time and take it to the right position of the reaction and to reabsorb it immediately after this event which, in general, takes not longer than about 10-9 seconds. Consequently, the weak photon current from biological systems, which - as we know nowadays
covers the whole spectral range at least from UV to infrared and which we call "biophotons"- may well suffice to take the role of regulating the whole biochemistry and biology of life."

Quantum-Information Processing with Photons
Ian A. Walmsley and Michael G. Raymer- Science Magazine, Volume 307, 2005, 18 March, 1733 (fee per article) Remarkably, a scheme for effective quantum interactions between photons has been invented that does not require the photons to intereact physically. When a group of photons are in an entangled state, the measurement of one or more of these photons' states causes the state of the remaining photons to "collapse." Such a state collapse can be viewed as an effective interaction between the remaining photons. The nature of the interaction depends on the outcomes of the measurement on each observed (ancilla) photon. The occurrence of certain predetermined outcomes of the ancilla measurements signals (heralds) the effective intereaction of the remaining photons.

"In fact we think, together with other authors, that the dualism is to be referred rather to the classical physics vs. quantum physics approach. Through such a dualistic model accounting for the formation of consciousness would derive the acts and the decisions of free will. In its wonderful awareness free will is mysteriously tuned to the Divine-Chance oscillation that is to the spiritual-material dualism."

Our Undiscovered Universe by Terence Witt- Introducing Null Physics- The Science of Uniform and Unconditional Reality. Controversal TOE. Positive review:
Physicists teaching next generations of physicists have in-bred narrow minded views and instituted a state of 'blind dogma', that is a typical cycle of the fundamental sciences (physics being the worst for it). This text is written by someone outside of the Physics fraternity itself, yet with the benefit of a PhD level science and engineering background. It is for the very reason of being "outside looking in", that a fresh and unbridled view of physics' accepted axioms is presented with logical and thorough reasoning, and in some facets outright rebuttals from current accepted truths.

Bioelectromagnetics: The Question of Subtle Energies- Jan Walleczek
"There is no consensus on what is meant by "subtle energies". Are they electromagnetic in nature? Are they highly organized and complex EM patterns which, so far, can be decoded only by living organisms? Are they at all related to the known physical forces such as electromagnetism? No one knows for certain."

The Penrose-Hameroff Orch OR theory goes out on a limb to address the puzzling facets of consciousness. It has engendered criticism because 1) it differs markedly from conventional wisdom, and 2) significant quantum processes seem unlikely in the warm brain milieu. But conventional wisdom fails to address puzzling facets of consciousness, and evidence suggests that biology has evolved mechanisms for brain-temperature quantum processes. Orch OR is consistent with all known neuroscience, cognitive science, biology and physics although it extends these disciplines theoretically. Moreover, unlike conventional theories Orch OR is testable and falsifiable. Spanning neurobiology, physics and philosophy, it is the most complete theory of consciousness.

The Reflexive Universe- Evolution of Consciousness
Arthur M. Young, author of Science, Spirit and the Soul (1985) writes:
"Our correlation of intention and consciousness with light, it is important to add, was not a correlation with electromagnetism, which is a theory of light. Nor was it even a correlation with the photon as currently thought of as a particle, but with the cycle of action, which is implicit in both theories but emphasized in neither. If we are to say that consciousness is x, there must be something known about consciousness and something known about x that, when equated, cause more to be known about both. Thus to say that consciousness is a different dimension is meaningless. To say that it is light may be intuitively gratifying, but is still only a metaphor. But to find from science that the "vibration" of light is a rotation, a cycle of action that goes through opposing phases, makes the equation of the cycle of action with the learning cycle not only meaningful but regenerative, in that it causes the interpenetration of one discipline by another."

Romanian Academy- The brain as an information processor "There are strong opponents of a quantum theory of brain/mind (MULHAUSER 1998, CHALMERS 1996 and others) and I am also an opponent of a structural quantum theory of the brain/mind. But if the quantum might be mixed with the phenomenological, then the problem of a role of quantum phenomena in brain/mind can remain on the agenda.
Scienca Scienca was established in 2003 to address the needs of many creative individuals in science and related areas who want open-access and open-review (OAOR) for their scientific work products. Scienca believes that through the process of OAOR good scientific ideas/results will survive but bad ones will simply "die" similar to what happens under Darwin's theory of evolution. Each process that produces electric photons does create also magnetic photons. The cross-section of magnetic photons in a terrestrial laboratory is roughly one million times smaller than that of electric photons of the same energy.
Electric Universe Donald E. Scott- "There is a revolution just beginning in astronomy/cosmology that will rival the one set off by Copernicus and Galileo. This revolution is based on the growing realization that the cosmos is highly electrical in nature. It is becoming clear that 99% of the universe is made up not of "invisible matter", but rather, of matter in the plasma state."

The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot - a review by Michael Kisor:
Some researchers refer to the ideas as the holographic paradigm. The main architects of this astonishing idea are two of the world's most eminent thinkers: University of London physicist David Bohm, a protege of Einstein's and one of the world's most respected quantum physicists; and Karl Pribram, a neurophysiologist at Stanford University and author of the classic neuropsychological textbook Languages of the Brain. It is important to note that although Bohm and Pribram are the originators of the holographic idea, they do not embrace all of the views and conclusions put forward in this book.
Space is not empty. It is full, a plenum as opposed to a vacuum, and is the ground for the existence of everything, including ourselves. The universe is not separate from this cosmic sea of energy, it is a ripple on its surface, a comparatively small pattern of excitation in the midst of an unimaginably vast ocean. This excitation pattern is relatively autonomous and gives rise to approximately recurrent, stable and separable projections into a three-dimensional explicate order of manifestation. Every cubic centimeter of empty space contains more energy than the total energy of all the matter in the known universe.
The concepts presented in this book are a cornerstone of Quanta-Gaia.
Hierarchical Neural Networks and Brainwaves: Towards a Theory of Consciousness by Dejan Rakovic, 1997- Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, 1997. The only mechanism that can account for the extremely dilated subjective time base in altered states of consciousness is the relativistic biophysical one, if only the "subjective" observer can be associated with an EM field of the ultralowfrequency (ULF) brainwaves which can move through the brain with relativistic velocities, as it was extensively elaborated in our biophysical model of altered states of consciousness [14,15]. However, it is necessary that complete information (both conscious and unconscious) be permanently coded from neural network to brainwaves, as a spatio-temporal pattern resulting from changes of the synaptic interconnections in the neural networks of the brain.

Biophotons And The Universal Light Code William F. Hamilton and Raymond Powers 2004 I've been reading a book "The Field" by Lynne McTaggert...
"Biophotons, or ultra weak photon emissions of biological systems, are weak electromagnetic waves in the optical range of the spectrum - in other words: light. All living cells of plants, animals and human beings emit biophotons which cannot be seen by the naked eye but can be measured by special equipment developed by German researchers. This light emission is an expression of the functional state of the living organism and its measurement therefore can be used to assess this state. Cancer cells and healthy cells of the same type, for instance, can be discriminated by typical differences in biophoton emission. There are so many ramifications to the study of biophotonic emissions that it is difficult to elucidate at this time. Biophoton studies seem to indicate that the emission is coherent and that biophotons may be modulated and communicate information not only throughout the body but into the extended environment. It may be the process by which DNA actually communicates its information to protein molecules in the process of morphogenesis. It may have relevance to extra-sensory modes of communication with other life forms and explain many mysteries of life. It is possible that biophotons may even be carriers of psi information and that a coherent coupling can be established between two conscious life forms resulting in a transference of information from a higher potential field to a field at lower potential. Even though this is conjecture at this point, it suggests other means by which disparate life forms can communicate.
Bioelectromagnetics: Energy Medicine - A Challenge for Science by Beverly Rubik - Noetic Sciences Review, Winter 1993, pages 37-39
The Luminous Universe by Sean Carroll. Most of the photons in the universe are actually not emitted by stars, gas, or any other object in the contemporary universe. Rather, they are the low-energy photons left over from the Big Bang. This relic radiation is primarily in the microwave region of the spectrum, and is known as the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). Photons from the CMB pervade space, providing a background buzz that serves as a constant reminder of the hot, dense state in which our universe began.
Neutrinos are tiny particles that can plow through the center of the Earth without even a hint of a whisper. Every second, billions of them rain down (and up) from outer space. However, rock or seawater will stop a neutrino now and then, creating a shower of elementary particles called muons. Muons are similar to electrons but heavier. Neutrinos are subatomic particles with no electric charge and very little mass. They are extremely hard to study because they have a very low probability of interacting with the rest of the world. According to the standard theory, neutrinos arose in large numbers out of the fires of the Big Bang. These so-called "background" neutrinos still exist: with 2,500 of them inhabiting every cubic inch of the universe.
Photons of visible light have about 2 electron volts (ev), while medical x-ray photons may have energies of 50,000 ev and those of gamma rays reach 1,000,000 ev and even more. The arrival of (say) 50,000 ev x-rayy photons from space is evidence of particles with at least that much energy, often much more, since each photon comes from a single particle.
Introduction to Biophotonics Dr. Paras Prasad, Institute for Lasers, Photonics and Biophotonics, University at Buffalo, USA
Dr. Prasad published "Introduction to Biophotonics," the first monograph in this field, which authoritatively defines the field, details its scope and identifies emerging opportunities.
In addition to ordinary photons, numerous other kinds of particles are constantly bombarding the Earth: protons (and atomic nuclei) that make up cosmic rays, ultra-light neutral particles known as neutrinos, and the gravitational equivalent of electromagnetic waves, known simply as gravitational waves. Cosmic rays have proven to be an invaluable window onto energetic processes in the universe, leading to important insights into particle physics (such as the discovery of the muon, a heavier cousin of the electron); today, the origin of the highest-energy cosmic rays remains a deep mystery. Neutrinos from astrophysical sources have likewise led to significant discoveries; it was the shortage of neutrinos emitted from the Sun which gave the first clue that these particles might have small masses, rather than being strictly massless.
Biophotons and Quantum Processes R.P.Bajpai, Institute of Self-Organising Systems and Biophysics, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, India - rpbajpai@yahoo.com - Possibility of photon emission in the fundamental biological processes involving quantum search of base pairs and amino acids. It is suggested that the photons emanating from the quantum processes are biophotons. The suggestion can explain various features of biophoton signals hitherto considered strange. A biophoton signal is ultra weak in strength because the signal emanates from a macroscopic assembly of molecules. It is ubiquitous and incessant because the fundamental biological processes of DNA replication and protein synthesis occur continuously in all living systems. Who knows some persons with heightened consciousness properties are simply biological detectors of the quantum state of entangled photons? Perhaps, some non-human living systems also have similar capabilities.

The Roots of Consciousness Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD- "A photon, when it is annihilated, is able to create particles of matter and anti-matter which have both mass, charge, and time, such as electrons and positrons, or protons and anti-protons. It is tempting to suggest that these particles with their charges represent the principle of desire or attraction, which in the Vedic myth arose from the One."
Anthony Freeman (Editor of the Journal of Conscious Studies) in his book Consciousness: A Guide to the Debates says:
Von Neumann, and those physicists such as Eugene Wigner (1902-1995) and Henry Stapp, who followed his lead, drew the inference that there is no logical end to the chain of events in a quantum experiment until the point of recognition of a measurement in a conscious observer's mind. He
therefore amended the standard Copenhagen interpretation-which says, remember, that the quantum world can only be understood in relation to the classical world of measuring instruments-to say that not just any recorded measurement but only conscious observation could precipitate
physical actuality out of quantum possibility. Von Neumann thus concluded that, if there was indeed a collapse of the wave function-by which we mean a point at which the quantum wave of possibility became an actual fact in the world of classical objects-then that collapse had to be identified with the moment of conscious observation. The mere moment of a photon striking a screen and causing a blip could not be the vital reality-creating moment, because without a conscious observer to interpret it, that blip was not an observation or a measurement, but just another meaningless collision of subatomic particles.
Quantum Consciousness a compendium of abstracts of theoretical papers.
Quantum Theory Zeh (2000)- "To most of these states, however, the true physical carrier of consciousness somewhere in the brain may still represent an external observer system, with whom they have to interact in order to be perceived. Regardless of whether the ultimate observer systems are quasi-classical or possess essential quantum aspects, consciousness can only be related to factor states (of systems assumed to be localized in the brain) that appear in branches (robust components) of the global wave function — provided the Schrodinger equation is exact. Environmental decoherence represents entanglement (but not any “distortion” — of the brain, in this case), while ensembles of wave functions, representing various potential (unpredictable) outcomes, would require a dynamical collapse (that has never been observed)."

Aspect and Grinberg-Zylberbaum experiments: Biological Nonlocality and the Mind-Brain Interaction Problem- Comments on a New Empirical Approach by Fred Thaheld. Up to now we have been faced with an age old fundamental dilemma posed by the mindbrain interaction problem, i.e., how is it that the mind which is subjective and immaterial, can interact with the brain which is objective and material? Analysis of recent experiments appears to indicate that quantum mechanics may have a role to play in the resolution of the mind-brain interaction problem in the form of biological entanglement and nonlocality.
