The Chitralada Dairy Plant Project

The Chitralada Dairy Plant Project began in the year B.E. 2505 (A.D. 1962) when certain governmental agencies together with some philanthropic organizations presented His Majesty the King with six milch cows. His Majesty then set up a dairy farm on the grounds of Chitlada Villa, Dusit Palace, with funds from the Privy Purse in order to study and experiment with all aspects of dairy farming. Many varieties of grass were experimented with at great length in order to find the most suitable feed, but because of restricted space available within the Palace grounds, a limit has now been set on the herd which totals 35 heads. Nonetheless, the project is fully operational in order to promote and disseminate the knowledge of dairy farming by demonstration of simple methods suitable for individual farmers.
