We hope the people "up North" are enjoying this real winter weather with the holiday spirit, because we are disappointed with the record cold temperatures for sailing in the Northern Guulf Coastal waters. By the time the time they gave Libelle two bottom coats (to keep her from freezing like Rosi and her two hats) the wind had blown long and hard enough out of the North to create low water in the bayou. Wind drives the water South in the Gulf and all the estuaries in cluding Lake Pontchartrain empty out. We couldn't leave the boatyard before dawn on Wed. as planned, because it took the whole crew of yardworkers to push Libelle out of the mud by the pilings into the deeper water of the channel. Rosi has been suffering from severe cold and flu (Grippe) which made the 40 nm motorsail in 39 degree F to Gulfport difficult. Along the way we were happy to hear Warren on the radio and see "Compromise" sail by in the opposite direction. We are looking forward to visiting with Carol in Biloxi tonight as we are waiting in Gulfport for a change in the weather to sail South. As Rosi summed it up when she woke up this morning - "wish them all a big, fat Christmas goose - I feel like goose-shit. 1
