just snakes and spiders! since we last wrote we have been hiding from the hot sun with umbrellas on the bow (thanks B&G) and over the cockpit at many remote small anchorages, where we sometimes tie to the shore. when it really gets unbearable we jump into the water except on beaches where the snakes are cooling themselves and catching fish. the forrests are beautiful with lots of cedars but the groundcover, including the blueberries we were looking forward to, is bonedry. we did make a 2 day reprovisioning stop at little current where the marinas and city docks were loaded with friendly cruisers including some people from thunder bay who knew PH when she was at home there and some people from Berlin, who plan to cruise the mississippi to new orleans in the fall. we also ran into our friends from kansas in the next anchorage. welcome to the list. 2 days ago the locals were happy to have their first real rain in 2 months, but the 28 boats in our anchorage at heywood island were glad when the horizontal rain and 40 kts. gusts ended after 1/2 hr. now we are in manitowaning, a quaint historical village with lots of nautical stuff. we are still hoping to catch perch when we travel north of here next week. PH has been doing very well in all respects and rosi uses walking sticks to prevent stiff hips. as allways alles gouda from jim and rosi. 1
