hello friends. either thru excellent cruise planning or shear dumm luck with the weather, we had a light
south wind pushing us up thru the st. mary's river under cloudy skies with only a few LAKERS passing
us in the channel. in fact we had incredible good luck since we made a rash decision to head for home
out of covered portage cove near killarny. as we are now taking the advice in "the gentleman's guide to
the thornless path" we had 3 easy days including a short stop for fuel, water, provisions and dinner at
the anchor inn in little current. people sometimes ask us what type of food we eat as we live-aboard:
beyond the cans from the bilge, the rice and noodles from the lockers, rosi has had great success
raising baby basil plants from marcia yahn. besides we scarfed up baskets of fresh, juicy ontario fruit,
eg. peaches, apricots, wt. plums (mirabellen) , blueberries, tomatoes. jim still has not caught any
perch, but the local fish from the market is delish. we also discovered a great ontario white wine:
pelee island, blanc d' blanc. at snug harbour (remote anchorage) after enjoying a swim in the
protected water , we had the good fortune to observe a fox patrolling the shorline at sunset. still no
bears. we had occas. rains and the fire ban here is now lifted. as PH is waiting in the roberta bondar
marina for the right wind to transit whitefish bay of L.superior, looking forward to possible rendevous
with chip ahoy in houghton michigan and our return to wisconsin in september. thanks for the nice
recent messages from vonny, matt, ravager, carol M. , john robinson, paul and marcia and danno. alles
gouda jim and rosi.
