Dear friends, After spending ten days on the hard in Biloxi, we are happy to be back on the water again. Life in the boatyard was dirty, dusty and tough but Libelle now has epoxy on her sand-blasted cast iron keel and two fresh coats of Trinidad bottom paint along with various other maintenance improvements. In the course of replacing the cutless bearing Jim got to know the greased interior of the max-prop intimately. These projects would not have been possible without the advice, encouragement and big hammer of Paul, the yard owner. He explained the importance of the tiny etched letters in lining up the gears inside the prop to achieve to proper pitch of the blades, but claimed there was nothing to it if you made certain marks and followed the manual. It took four hands and lots of patience to get it back together. As we applied the final grease with Libelle in the slings of the Travel-lift, the crew asked if we got "the right angle of the dangle." Jim said everything was back just the way it was. They laughed as they told us that's what Paul said before they tried out his last customer's boat which went backwards when they put it in forward gear. Not to worry Libelle motors smoother than ever. The highlite of our evenings were dinners, nice visits and errands in a car - all provided by Carol Mathews. We were blessed with great weather - datime high ca. 80 degrees F (comfortable in paper coveralls) and nightimes 55 F. After a night at anchor in the Mississippi Sound, we are now on our way back to Beau Chene, where we'll jump in the Toyota on Sat to head for Baton Rouge for early Thanksgiving dinner at Yvonne's house while Matt and family are visiting there. Still loose about cruising plans for the winter as we intend to fly to Germany in mid-March.
