that's marathon ontario-not the fla.keyes as we needed polarfleece and hot
waterbottles to cope with night time temps of 8*C - 46*F . we are now tied
to the bollards of the pulp mill shipping dock and we hear the constant
drone of industrial machines; see the smog drift over the harbour and smell
the sulfuric acid from the factory stacks. as opposed to last week where we
heard the call of the loons and the waves lapping on the pebble beaches
and chugging under the round rocks; watched the beaver swim right by our
boat and the caribou jog at the waters edge; enjoyed the sweet smell of the
wild roses and the woodsey scent in the crisp clear air; harvested rhubarb
in the abandoned lighthouse keepers garden with lilacs and bleeding hearts.
we were anchoring namely in 2 small coves for several days each; patterson
in the slate (created by asteroid) isl. group and allouez near pic isl.
prior to that while waiting for wind in copper harbor we had a most
enjoyable visit with jack, former winter neighbor at beau chene. he showed
us the beauty of the keweenaw hills and told us the legends of copper
country in the extended futile search for propane. thanks to otto the
autohelm and light wind on the stern the 20 hr crossing from michigan to
canada was easy and uneventful other than the whiskerpole ripping off the
mast at 2 am. since reprovisioning has been easy including propane here in
marathon we intend to move to the anchorage at hattie cove visitor center
of the pukaskwa national park. we will stay there for a few days and can
receive urgent messages, i.e. requests for callbacks. at (807)229-0801. we
will continue south from there but do not expect to be near wawa until
august phone contact there bucks marina(705)856-4488. thanks for your reply
