dear friends, we had been at the dock at peakes boatyard in chaguaramas
trinidad west indies, for 2 weeks, where we enjoyed electricity for
DVDs,CDs, and uninterrupted refridgeration. the many fans and shadetree
awning could not keep up with the noon/afternoon heat and the process of
gathering estimates for the the insurance adjuster was very slow and
difficult. we are now confident that the contractor whom we have selected
can keep things mooving.although our cruising is now on hold we have had
some lovely major experiences since barbados. after a squally nite at sea,
we landed on the NW coast of tobago in charlotteville, but could not get
local currency there. hence we took the bus to scarborough along the
windward road which was an adventure in itself. up and down the
neckbreaking roads thru the rainforrests with many birds, parrots and
frogs; screaching, singing and croaking. after clearing customs and a few
days recovery from the passage and the paperwork, we sailed along the
leeward coast where we met new friends (fellow cruisers and tourists on
shore from F, NL, D, CH, SA , USA, CAN & Brazil) in several anchorages.
along the way we found the best snorkeling experience of our lives and
wonderful fruitgathering (mango, avocado & granapes) while hiking the
gravelroads in the hilly rainforrest. the parrots were so big they looked
like colored hawks flying. we finally cashed in on a downwind-favorable
current sail from tobago to and along the northern coast of trinidad on a
beautiful sunday late in july. we arrived at boca de monos scotland bay
just before dark to anchor between a crowd of boats amongst growler monkeys
and turkey vultures. have had warm hospitality from charles cousins;
including emancipation day (1 aug.) dance. work now in progress-mast
down-tarp and AC up. mail is sometimes slow here, but if you act quickly
we can receive at: jim and rosi LIBELLE, Power Boats, P.O.Box 3163,
