hi friends, we arrived here in mandeville, louisiana last month just a couple days after "mathew" had dumped billions of gallons of rain on the new orleans coastline. at the time of our arrival most of the floodwater had disappeared and libelle was waiting for us pretty much just as we left her thanks to efforts of our friends who tended lines to keep her centered in the slip with rising and falling waterlevels, independent of tides which are negligable in the tchefuncta river. fortunately no big hurricane damage here as in caribbean, florida and alabama, where a friend lost his shop, but fortunately neither he nor his dogs nor his boat suffered with 130mph wind. also got word from paul and janet that Matilda had fallen off her jackstands in grenada during ivan and we wish them speedy repairs. right now we are in the boatyard with Libelle for rudder repair (after failure of job by the dutchmen in curacao) and bottompaint. thanks to friends warren and gayle we are sleeping on Compromise in a marina nearby. on completion of the work we'll motor back up the river to beau chene for plenty of other repairs while on the water - not least of all the volvo. we are looking forward to a visit here with baerbel and gerhard, now Berlin residents, in jan. 05. would like to see some of you this winter to enjoy the mild climate, great music and wonderful cajun cuisine. yesterday the temp. was 75F although it was cooler when jim's brother, his wife and sister were here last weekend. now they are back in penna. and mass....brrrr. as you are hearing less from stationary us, HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL. jim and rosi
