dear friends, while completing repairs in the slip at Beau Chene, glorious months of spring brought out beautiful blossoms and songs of the migratory birds. but our fondest memories of our first stationary "winter" were the fun times we spent with yvonne: pirogue and kayak on the bayous, suppers at her home & in the french quarter, blues and mardi gras parades downtown baton rouge. she posted picture highlights for all of you to see on the website now with rosi's successful sclerotherapy on her L leg she is walking 1 hr/day and with the anticipated as well as surprise replacements on the boat(battery charger, engine mounting bolt, radar) mostly behind us, Libelle is free to roam the seas again. on our first leg across lake pontchartrain we enjoyed having marilyn of Queens Barge aboard as the Cotton Blossom paddle wheeler crossed our bow near the causeway bridge with a cool dry breeze on the stern. we timed our stay on the city seawall mandeville to attend the march Power Squadron mtg. deciding not to hurry, we anchore behind rabbit island after passing thru the railroad bridge at the rigolets (curving channel that connects lake pantchartrain to the gulf) as rosi was looking forward to sleeping in the "marsh". with the anchor set into brisk westerlies our stern faced SEADRILL 2, a derelict oil platform. sitting in the cockpit the golden tone of sunset created a vibrant contrast between the vast palace of rust against the deep blue sky. a tug with 2 barges from the industrial waterway joined us in the anchorage. we could read the "warning: Benzene" as a freight train roared past the bow making it impossible to spreak. but rosi was in heaven watching the great blue heron and egrets feeding near the mud bank, swallows flitting in and out of the eerie structure and a single sloon diving next to the hull. now in the marina, Biloxi, mississippi as a cold front passes, planning to rendevous with matt, nola, payden, saylor in pensacola, fla. next week. with anticipated stops in marathon, lake worth, st. augustine as well as others related to weather, we hope to arrive in the chesapeake to celebrate Jodi's graduation in washington D.C. on may 14 and store Libelle on land in virginia before we drive back to wisconsin for the summer. alles gouda, jim&rosi.
