Hello to Everyone!

I got a call from Jim this morning! They arrived in Malaga yesterday (8 Oct 99). Everyone is doing fine. En route, they made an overnight stop at Sardinia (guess I'll have to revise the map). They had some strong winds toward the end of the leg to Malaga and this helped to bring them into port in good time, but it also made Baerbel quite green. She was quite happy to make landfall again.

They were not able to get into the yacht club marina at Malaga, so they are currently at the commercial marina. This marina, of course, does not provide much in the way of amenities - they have no electric and no water, and the bathroom is not exactly up to my Mom's standards... Malaga is a large, bustling city and Baerbel and Rosi went to visit the Catherdral yesterday.

Right now, they have very strong winds from the east and this is creating quite a chop through the channel out of the Med. They will hang around the Malaga area a bit, do some repairs, and keep an eye on the weather for a good window to Gibralter. En route to the Canaries, they will probably be making some pit stops in Morocco.

They really enjoyed sailing with Baerbel and Gerhardt. I *don't think* I wrote about B&G. Baerbel was a classmate of Rosi's from her physical therapist program in Germany. They renewed the friendship at a 40th class reunion in Berlin in spring 1997. Matt and I were able to accompany her on this "homecoming", and had a great time.

Jim made a special point to mention that they are STILL feasting from the "Fruechtebrot" (fruit bread - NOT fruitcake) that I made for them before they left. That's four months at still going strong! Once I get the chance (ha ha) I'll try to get the recipe on the web page.

Well, that's about all for now. Jim said that Rosi would be calling me either tonight or tomorrow, so maybe I'll get more information soon.

Best to all and, of course, "Alles Gouda"

Yvonne

P.S. To Barb Constance: Rosi and Jim are still waiting to hear from you - please email or call me at 225-761-9268.
