"PC" (aka the Windpilot) was our self-steering mechanism.  Unlike autopilots which steer the boat according to a compass course, PC has a paddle which detects the wind direction and steers  the boat at the same angle relative to the wind.  So if the wind shifts, the sails will still be set just fine.  Occasionally, a large wave would come from the side and spin the boat.  In these extreme circumstances, PC could usually correct the course again, but sometimes, this was not possible.  Our job during the trip was, therefore, to decide on the sails and the heading, and then to "keep and eye on PC".

PC is the blade in the middle with the streamer on it.

"Turbo"  is to the right (port side of the boat).  A heavy lead propellor is attached to this unit with a long rope.  We lost the propellor when the shackle broke that attaches the rope to the generator.
